AALEXANDER JONES

Between the years of 2011-2013 I have been producing a body of work based on my experiences in the Armed Forces. Whether it is coping with war or transitioning from Active duty to civilian. PTSD is something that War Veterans deal with in our everyday lives. For me as an artist my intention is to express these feelings or memories through my artwork.
To create my images I first collage a few photos that I find from the Internet or ones that I’ve captured during my tour of duty. I then take these images and combine them in Photoshop using the artistic “Cutout” tool rendering them to appear as ‘paint by numbers’ sort of manner. I then grid out the image in proportion to the canvas and paint them in acrylic. This ‘cutout’ technique has a poster like quality similar to works of Sheperd Fairey.
My artwork takes a critical view of social and political issues in relation to my military and post-military experiences. My portraits may seem as if they are motivational recruit posters, when in fact, they are honorable fallen heroes from my hometown.
My work may as well be intended for military related audience but that doesn’t mean those who have not served won’t get a reaction from my work. Keep in mind that most of my work is expressed through my struggle with PTSD or my way of coping with a loss loved one. My intention for you, as the viewer, is to take in consideration for those who have fought and gave their lives for our freedom!
